The International Diabetes Federation visit Banting House Museum to thank Canada for its gift of insulin ahead of its World Diabetes Congress in Montreal.

Media Invitation - Opening Ceremony

WHAT: International Diabetes Federation 20th World Diabetes Congress Opening Ceremony. IDF Dignitaries join the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health of Canada in welcoming thousands of diabetes delegates from across the globe to Canada. The Opening Ceremony will feature a tribute to Banting & Best and the discovery of Insulin in 1921, an exciting circus performance from the hometown of “Cirque du Soleil”, and an interactive wooden spoon performance orchestrated by a traditional Québec folk band – Le Vent du Nord.

IDF elects new leadership to address global diabetes epidemic

The International Diabetes Federation is proud to welcome Professor Jean Claude Mbanya of Cameroon as its new President at the close of the IDF 20th World Diabetes Congress on October 22. He will lead the Federation for the next 3 years. IDF is delighted to announce that Sir Michael Hirst of the United Kingdom was voted President-Elect. The IDF General Council that is made up  of more than 200 IDF Member Associations from over 160 countries. Sir Michael will take over from President Mbanya in 2012.

IDF mega-congress brings global diabetes community to Montreal

The International Diabetes Federation’s 20th World Diabetes Congress opened today at the Palais de Congress in Montreal, Quebec. The five-day congress brings thousands of international delegates to the Canadian city to discuss burning issues in diabetes care and examine local, national and regional solutions to a growing global problem.

International Diabetes Federation says epidemic out of control

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) released new data today showing that a staggering 285 million people worldwide have diabetes. The latest figures from the IDF Diabetes Atlas indicate that people in low and middle-income countries (LMCs) are bearing the brunt of the epidemic, and that the disease is affecting far more people of working age than previously believed.
